Fresno Transit Center
Fresno, California
VMWP Architects

This project consists of two buildings containing 104 affordable senior rental apartments, a community park, and a bus transfer station for the FAX transit system.

The bus transfer station has been designed to take advantage of passive cooling techniques to minimize the need for air conditioning in the hot Fresno climate.  Outdoor passenger waiting areas are shaded by deep roof overhangs and trellises and cooled by fans.

The transit station and the senior housing both open to the community park, which fronts the public road for greater visibility.  Each of the two senior apartment buildings wraps around a courtyard, utilizing the buildings to provide shade to the outdoor space and create privacy for the residents.

All aspects of this project were designed to exceed FresnoGreen requirements as well as be GreenPoint rated.
